Chromebooks are something I’ve had my eye on for the last few years but recently I decided to buy one. When I told a few people that I had started to make the switch they looked at me and thought “Meh… So what?” Since buying one, I say I realize how little I rely on traditional software that needs to be installed on a laptop that I use in my daily life. This was surprising to me and I thought that I would struggle making the move to a Chromebook and found out that was not the case. There are literally so many apps, websites and cloud based solutions that interface well with a Chromebook its been very complimentary to getting work done.
- They Aren’t Expensive – Probably one of the biggest comparisons to owning a laptop is that most are a lot less expensive then a laptop. You can usually pick one up for a couple hundred dollars.
- Backups? To The Cloud!!! – Working on a Chromebook forces you to store anything you are working to the cloud (Google provides 100 GB of free space on Chromebooks). The benefit of doing this is that if you drop your Chromebook or lose it not all is lost. All you need to do is log into your Google account and its all right there
- Fast & Quiet – Chromebooks because they are designed to connect to the internet are striped down to run faster than traditional laptops and they are incredibly quiet.
- Easy Setup – Within about 5 minutes of taking it out of the box it is setup and ready to go. No install discs, no anti-virus software to add, no problem.
