LinkedIn is a great tool for job searching, networking and building your network and staying up to date on the latest professional articles, opinion pieces and more. People on LinkedIn spend a good amount of time curating their professional experience through job changes, promotions, professional development and affiliations that a lot of time this information is more current then what is in your resume. And let’s be honest, when was the last time you looked at it? Especially if you’ve been in a job for a few years and enjoy what you are doing. Probably not that much but there is a good chance your LinkedIn profile is much more current. In order to do this all you need to do is log into your LinkedIn account, go to your profile and click on the “…” next to the pencil icon you can see in my screenshot below. Lastly, select the “Save to PDF” option and this will create your profile on LinkedIn into a PDF.
When you save your LinkedIn profile as a PDF there are many times this can be used when applying for a job as it has a lot of the structure that exists in any decent resume from your professional summary, experience and education. I haven’t tested with additional sections but it is a good start. If you are looking to build your own resume out you can take the content off the PDF and paste into any word processor and tweak it from their. What you will find is that this saves you time and energy on something you probably already have.
